How it Works

Families in the Altgeld and Austin areas are able to access hot meals at no cost through delivery from Lexington Betty's. The owner, Dominique Leach, is a local Chef, wife and Entrepreneur. The restaurant was just starting to gain acclaim in the neighborhood for their amazing sauce. They use one sauce on all their meats - a mild sauce influenced by the legendary sauces seen at South Side chicken shacks, with a touch of vinegar - an homage to North Carolina. Supporting her restaurant has allowed her to continue to employee 5 staff members. Our Families are receiving a night of compassion and love while enjoying these locally delicious and nutritious meals.

How it Works

Cultivating Catering: In 2016, Chef Chrissy established Cultivating Catering, an all-inclusive fusion food service company. Chef Chrissy has been capitalizing from social media and ascending in the food industry using her cooking abilities to turn food into art. Chef Chrissy created the brand with the intentions of enticing all five senses. Her assortment of visual creativity, the crackling crisp freshness you hear with every bite, the delightful mixtures of spices and seasonings in the aroma you smell, while delicately grasping velvety prepared pastries, and of course tasting the cultivating food. Because of COVID Chef Chrissy had to return a lot money to clients for several different events that had to be canceled. This is Chef Chrissy’s main source of income so things have been hard for her during this time. Being able to be a part of this is a blessing for her. Not only will it help some financially but it allows her to help others and have new people to taste her food!

Expressions Catering & Event Planning: Expressions started 25 years ago out of the home kitchen of owner Debra. She would prepare dishes for friend and family get togethers. Guest of these events began requesting her services as well as referring others and the business grew by word of mouth. She uses her knowledge of different cultures to create delicious affordable menus and event ideas for any occasion at affordable prices. The demand for her services grew to where she was able to have a small stand by team of sub-contractors ready to assist with any size event. Since COVID-19 Expressions has had to refund all deposits for events planned during the shelter in place and canceled doin g any future large events. This is her major source of income so it has been very hard to make ends meet. This opportunity will allow her to be a blessing to a few of my sub-contractors who have no income coming in as well as be blessed by getting back in kitchen and creating something delicious and affordable for the families at By The Hand For Kids.

Chicago Pit Stop: This is a family run business known for its delicious BBQ. Their goal is to continue to provide great food and quality service. They are the same great place they’ve been for years just a new name. They are just excited to be a blessing to others during this time. Business has been very slow especially during what would have been prom and graduation season so being able to fulfill this order will not necessarily allow them to bring all of their staff in to work but will definitely give extra hours!

Exquisite Catering

Nicole Jordan Catering

3931 S Leavitt St, Chicago, IL 60609

How it Works

Nicole Jordan Catering: A bit over 4 years old, Nicole Jordan pursued her entrepreneurial and culinary dream by leaving her corporate consulting career to open Nicole Jordan Catering, a full-service catering company on the south side near McKinley Park. She started off with one partner, but the company has grown to four employees currently. Approximately half of her business efforts go toward serving local non-profits and educational institutions. Nicole Jordan catering is laser-focused on providing exceptional service and tasty food. They have been hit hard by recent events, effectively shutting down mid-March given so many events have been cancelled. They will be launching a new meal service program in mid-June with the hopes of a weekly online meal service for families in the city and bordering suburbs.

Exquisite Catering: Tiffany Wilson had a dream to bring international cuisine to the south side where she grew up. In the midst of a 20+ year career in the food industry, including serving some of the world’s most influential celebrities (she was a chef to Beyoncé and Jay-Z on their recent tour!), Tiffany and her staff of 12 are providing simple, high-quality comfort meals all over the city. Exquisite has been devastated by recent events, but they have persevered and found ways to reinvent themselves. Exquisite Catering is now serving local hospitals, medical clinics, and police stations across Chicago. More than anything, Tiffany wants to make sure nobody goes to sleep hungry.
